The Bard's Tale (2004) is Back on PS4!
Depending on your age and your history with gaming, "The Bard's Tale" could mean one of two things. It's either a classic first-person dungeon crawler known for its challenging gameplay that recently had a new installment kickstarted, or its a 2004 reboot using the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance engine and starring Princess Bride actor Cary Elwes.
Both of these versions of The Bard's Tale have their ardent fans, and interestingly, both came out of the same pool of creative talent.
Now, I've got nothing against the hard dungeon crawler Bard's Tale games...but I've always had a soft spot for that wacky action RPG reboot. Up until now, the best way to play the originally-on-PS2 game in the modern era was on a mobile device or a PC.
Today, InXile surprise-launched PS4 and Vita(!) versions. The new version features updated graphical assets, and on a PS4 Pro it can run in 4k and at 60 frames per second.
It's only $10 too, which is great.
I'm going to spend some time playing the new version this weekend, and I imagine I'll have some more to say about it, but I just wanted to get that out there. If you like action RPGs styled after Diablo, are a fan of spoofy humor, and have a PS4 lying around somewhere, this would be an excellent way to spend 10 bucks and 20 or so hours!
