My Audio/Headphone Awards for 2020

Each December, I take some time to showcase the best new audio products I reviewed that launched within that calendar year. Normally, I also highlight the worst contenders…but that didn’t feel right this year for a whole host of reasons. The year has already been enough of a struggle, and I didn’t try any new headphone or headset releases that were off-putting enough to be worthy of “recognition” in this manner.

Normally, I’d also have a whole series of Game of the Year articles out by now…but I’m behind on gaming content, and a number of high profile releases came in very late and very hot. I was hoping that Cyberpunk would be a stronger game than it was…but Ubisoft put out a hilarious number of decent huge games I haven’t finished yet this year, and I’m also deep in clean-up mode on a number of the year’s big action RPGs. You can look forward to my game of the year content in the first weeks of the new year.

January is usually when I experiment with older headphones I’ve missed out on, and this year will be no different. I’m deep in testing on the classic Philips Fidelio X2 in its most recent X2HR revision. So far, it’s a little like listening to a DT990, but without the knife-to-the-ears treble.
