The Witcher 3 is here for Switch, and it’s spectacular.

This time, I promise I’m going to finish it. For real.

Not like all those other times with all those other games.

Back in the day, when I reviewed video games on a regular basis for a local computer magazine, I got a copy of The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 early as part of CD Projekt’s expanded reviews program. That port was simply an incredible technological feat, and while I’m still bummed out about the cancellation of the Witcher 1 port to the Xbox platform, getting a version of the sequel with a completely new lighting pass was really exciting at the time.

The Witcher 3 on Switch represents an even larger technical achievement, one that I swore in capital letters about to a friend when it was first announced.

If you missed it over on Medium, I wrote a quick round-up style article about the best price-to-performance sweet spot for headphones.

That article has been pretty popular, so I’ll be expanding on that in the coming months with a re-examination of some classic studio pairs. In addition, my “Headphone Showdown” series will return with some comparisons of various gaming headsets I’ve reviewed recently.

I bought a new pair of Sony MDR-V6’s last week, and I plan to eventually do more with them than just criticize their packaging. My headband got a little crimped in the box, not an uncommon “problem,” but other than that they’re still the brilliant audio device they’ve been for the last 35 years.

I probably would have looked at the new AKG K361 or K371 by now, but their popularity means that pairs are a little tough to come by through my preferred retail channels. I have enough other content on the docket that I’m not in a rush. Plus, enough of the big names trust them that you can probably already make a decision before I’ve fulfilled my personal curiosity.

The end of the year is nearly upon us, and that means I’ll be writing year-end lists soon. I’m already in the process for several gaming headset awards. Picking a favorite game will be harder since I didn’t play that many this year compared to last year.

Did I mention that the Switch port of Witcher 3 is really good? I’m only about an hour into the game but the raw performance is shocking in spite of the lower-quality visuals. If you were looking for more coverage of that from me, you’ll be pleasantly surprised over the next week.
